18/07/2008 12:27. Audi's S4 performance sedan came first, followed by the Cabriolet model to their compact S4 hot rod lineup, both powered by the same FSI V8 engine. It is their new version of the 4.2-liter V8 found in other Audi models. The overall length of the engine was shortened to facilitate the snug engine bay. This was accomplished by repositioning the drive chains at the aft end of the engine, which also reduced the weight to a modest 430 pounds. In spite of its compactness, the engine generates 340 horsepower and a peak torque output of 302 pound-feet.

The S4 Cabriolet bolts from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds (.4 slower than the sedan) when coupled to the six-speed manual gearbox. If you prefer an automatic most of the time, a Tiptronic transmission may be substituted, which allows for shifting... // San Francisco Chronicle
