This proliferation causes some confusion, especially in the
performance luxury segment, which has really heated up as of late.
For instance, AMG, Mercedes ' tuning arm, has two engine configurations available for many of
its higher-end models -- the 63 and 65 -- which, despite the
relative similarity of their designations, couldn't be more
dissimilar. The 63 is a 6.2-litre DOHC V8 and the 65 is an SOHC V12
with twin turbochargers.
Audi's lineup can also cause confusion. The S4 -- in cabriolet form
-- could easily be mistaken for a competitor to BMW's M3. After
all, it has the requisite S moniker that would seem to dictate a
higher-performance model.
Then there's its 4.2L V8 engine sporting 340 horsepower. Yet, after
driving this droptop version of the S4, I figured it... //
