Audi switches to supercharging 04/07/2008 13:23. Audi has disclosed the first details of its all-new supercharged
3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. It will be called TFSI in which the T
no longer stands for turbocharged; the FSI is Audi's usual moniker
for direct-injection (fuel stratified injection). - This is not the first time Audi has used a supercharger, also known commonly in Germany as Kompressor, as in the case of Mercedes-Benz. In the 1930s, the 12- and 16-cylinder engines of the Audi's Grand Prix racecars built by Auto Union were supercharged. - Since the 1970s, Audi focused on turbochargers that feature widely in current models.
