17/07/2008 17:31. Here are the first spy photos of the next generation BMW X3 which is due to hit the market in 2011. Our spies snapped it undergoing road tests at Nrburgring.

The current X3 has been around since 2003 and in 2006 BMW gave it a mild facelift.

Although the prototype that our spies caught is heavily disguised it appears as if the dimensions and overall shape of the vehicle will be largely unchanged.

Expect to see styling cues of the X5 and X6 on the new X3, while it will also feature a more prominent grille and wrap-around lights.

The engine lineup is likely to see the introduction of the 335i's twin-turbo 3.0-liter pretol engine as well as new diesels. There is speculation that a hybrid model is on the cards too.

Furthermore BMW is to move production of the X3 to its Spartanburg plant in the US where it will be built alongside the new X6 and X5. // Wheels24.co.za
