Buick Open winner Perry taking regular-guy route
30/06/2008 23:04. GRAND BLANC -- Kenny Perry, by all accounts a nice man and the happy winner of his second Buick Open title, isn't defiant by nature or design. Perry, a deacon in the Franklin, Ky., Church of Christ, just doesn't treat golf's major championships as the holy grail or the means to measure a career. He isn't concerned that he is 18 major championship wins behind Jack Nicklaus, or 14 behind Tiger Woods. He's taking the regular-event, regular-guy route, in this case the Buick Open route, building up points with top finishes on the PGA Tour with one goal in mind -- to make the U.S. Ryder Cup team. He started the year wanting to wear the U.S. colors in his home state of Kentucky in the worst way.
