• Excitement drives District ahead of Buick

04/07/2008 01:37. A busy golf weekend in mid-Michigan gave us new champions in the Buick Open and Saginaw District Golf Association tournaments.

Both went down to the wire with one stroke separating first and second place.

But that's where the excitement comparison ends.

Although Buick Open officials put on another class event, the 50th Anniversary edition was far from what they hoped for a few months ago.

Back then, Tiger Woods would play, galleries would swell, TV ratings would climb and corporate advertisers would leave satisfied.

Then came Tiger's season-ending injuries and withdraw from the Buick.
