Talladega: Chevrolet NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Quotes, Recap Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's Impala SS, extended his lead in the Chase to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship to 72 points with a hard-fought ninth place finish at Talladega Superspeedway. Johnson led the AMP Energy 500 twice for a total of three laps. Johnson was moved to the last starting position in the field after the team examined the engine prior to final technical inspection, considered an infraction of the impound rules governing today's race. His day was further complicated when he went a lap down to the leaders early in the race after losing the draft. Johnson and his Chad Knaus-led team employed numerous pit strategies to move the two-time and defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion up in the field throughout the... // PaddockTalk 06/10/2008 11:29 Talladega: Dodge NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Quotes, Recap PaddockTalk
Talladega: Dodge NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Quotes, Recap BOBBY LABONTE (No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge Charger) Finished 6th CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE RACE? “Our car wouldn’t run on the bottom of the race track. It would run in the middle and the outside, but we needed to be on the bottom. We had to get some momentum to really get going, to get some headway. Sometimes we could get it, sometimes we didn’t. This reminded me so much of IROC racing with just a lot more cars.†CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE FINAL LAPS? “At the end for the green-white-checkered, it’s hard with only a few cars left to really mount a charge from where we were in the field. The 66 got side-by-side with someone and I just couldn’t get any help from behind. One more lap, I think... // PaddockTalk 05/10/2008 10:54 Talladega: Ford NASCAR Truck Race Recap, Quotes PaddockTalk
Talladega: Ford NASCAR Truck Race Recap, Quotes RICK CRAWFORD – No. 14 Powerstroke Diesel by Int’l Ford F-150 (Finished 28th) – "This Ford Powerstroke Diesel by International was putting us in a position to win the race. The whole front line there decided to pit and when we pulled off to go to pit road, Mike Wallace just got on the brakes a little harder than I did and I bumped him. It wasn’t a big hit at all. There wasn’t much damage on the Ford Powerstroke Diesel, but it kicked the radiator cap off of it. It’s just one of those things." COLIN BRAUN – No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford F-150 (Finished 4th) – YOU WENT FROM 21ST TO 4TH ON THE FINAL RESTART. "Yeah, we did it twice, too, which was the impressive part. Talladega: Ford NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying Recap, Quotes - Pole! GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 3M Ford Fusion (Qualified 22nd) – "I liked that lap. That was a good lap for us. I thought that was quite a bit of speed pickup, but maybe a little discouraging that the only car that’s gone in front of us ran a .29, which is a little over a tenth faster, so that concerns me a little bit, but it was a great pickup for our car." WHAT WOULD BE AN IDEAL DAY FOR YOU TOMORROW? "An ideal day would be win, but I think, really, what our focus is a top-five for tomorrow – just keep our nose clean basically would be a good day." HOW HARD IS IT TO GET A TOP FIVE HERE? Talladega: Dodge NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying Recap, Quotes RYAN NEWMAN (No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger) Qualified 24th "Our lap was uneventful. I just tried to hold a pretty steady wheel. We ran laps yesterday in practice in traffic and the car could be quicker. For qualifying, we just wanted to get a good temperature reading tape wise for our teammates since we went out first and repay the favor." HOW IS YOUR CAR WORKING IN THE DRAFT? "It seems to be just average. We‘re kind of mid-pack. The Alltel Dodge doesn’t feel super strong like the stuff we had in Daytona. We’ll see where we end up." JUAN PABLO MONTOYA (No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger) Qualified 13th HOW IS THE CAR? "The Texaco/Havoline car was pretty good. It was much better than expected. "I think we’re pretty happy. We made a few changes from happy hour practice until now. We’re really happy with the car in drafting – especially leading. We weren’t quite as happy with it sucking up behind cars, but we really seemed to lead a group of cars well. Honestly, that was the very first qualifying lap that we made all weekend. So, I think we’re pretty pleased with that." To see all three Roush Fenway trucks in the top three, I think, is pretty impressive and really just shows the hard work the guys have been doing at the shop. Talladega: Toyota NASCAR Truck Qualifying Recap TODD BODINE, No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra, Germain Racing Starting Position: 5th What is your game plan Saturday to repeat your race win from a year ago? "The game plan is to try to run with the Fords. We got a pretty big horsepower deficit. We’re just going to stick with them, and stay around the top. The Lumber Liquidators Tundra is really driving good, it’s fantastic. I know it’s going to be good in the draft. It was good yesterday in practice. That’s what it’s about here. You have to position yourself towards the end of the race to have a shot at winning. It’s going to be hard to beat the Fords, though. That’s for sure." Talladega: Chevrolet NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview TEAM CHEVY IMPALA SS INSIDE THE GARAGE AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY: PAT SUHY, GM RACING NASCAR GROUP MANAGER: “Talladega is one of those races that you have to go into with a realistic expectations. So often, the fastest qualifier or the fastest car in race trim doesn't finish up front. That's what makes it a fan favorite and one of the must-see races. That said, it's still important to have the best car and the best engine in the hands of the best drivers for the race. Team Chevy has strength in all of those areas. As tightly controlled as the body templates on the Impala SS are, there's still room to squeeze that last pound of drag out, or gain the next pound of downforce. All of that in an effort to have a car that's well... // PaddockTalk 02/10/2008 20:52 Talladega: Chevrolet NASCAR Truck Race Preview PaddockTalk
Talladega: Chevrolet NASCAR Truck Race Preview TEAM CHEVY SILVERADO ON THE TRACK: Dayne Pierantoni, GM Racing Silverado Program Manager, NCTS: “This week our teams will be switching gears to the nuances of the superspeedway racing. Several of our teams have been in the wind tunnel fine tuning their Silverados as they accommodate the addition of a right side window and a larger rear spoiler which are required at both Daytona and Talladega. On the chassis side they will be trying to optimize a chassis setup which prioritizes speed over handling and grip. There is an unbelievable amount of effort that goes into preparing the trucks for the superspeedway events. Some put a high priority on their qualifying setup while others concentrate primarily on race trim. As we have seen in the... // PaddockTalk |
