20/08/2008 11:36. DETROIT : When the economy soured and gas prices soared, no auto company seemed in a worse position than Chrysler.

The smallest of Detroit's Big Three, Chrysler which also owns the Jeep and Dodge brands is famous for its big V-8 Hemi engines and rugged sport utility vehicles, and was woefully short of the fuel-efficient cars that consumers wanted.
