June 23 (Bloomberg) -- Daihatsu Motor Co. , Japan's largest maker of minicars, will increase production in Indonesia by 25 percent this fiscal year as rising gasoline prices boost demand for compact cars.

Daihatsu will raise compact-vehicle output in the country to about 250,000 units in the year ending March 31, spokesman Shozo Shimizu said today in Tokyo.

Extended work hours at the Indonesia factory, which builds cars sold mainly in Southeast Asia , will support the production increase, he said. The price of crude oil this year has surged 41 percent, fueling demand for the Osaka-based company's smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles including the Avanza and Xenia minivan models.
