Honda would welcome double F1 world champion Fernando Alonso in 2009, Honda team principal Ross Brawn admits - but the Spaniard's heart is set on a move to Ferrari .

Brawn has admitted that Alonso is on Honda's Formula 1 shopping list for 2009 - but he insists that first, 'the situation with Ferrari must be resolved'.

It is a scarcely-kept paddock secret that Alonso is keen to move to Ferrari next year, despite denials from both sides, and with Felipe Massa 's current strong form it may be that - should Kimi Raikkonen choose to retire at the end of the 2008 campaign - the former double world champion will slot in alongside the Brazilian at Maranello.

Fernando Alonso would be welcome at Honda but his preferred employer is Ferrari.

That was the admission this week of Ross Brawn, Formula 1 Team Principal at the Honda team, whose current drivers are out of contract at the end of 2008.

Amid speculation at Magny-Cours two weeks ago that Brackley based Honda could be Spaniard Alonso's next destination, Brawn now admits that "every team" would be interested in the services of the former double Formula One World Champion.

"Honda is no different, of course," he is quoted as telling the Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell.
