As mentioned in our launch report the Bravo Eco is Fiat's attempt to do what other manufacturers - most notably the Volkswagen Group - have done in the past, namely to offer a tax-busting version of an existing car.

Fiat has come up with a 'fun-to-drive' index. What they reckon is, regardless of how fast a car can sprint from 0 to 62mph, or manage flat-out on a motorway, 'fun' comes down - largely - to the first few seconds of acceleration.

Fiat launched the current Bravo with every intention of making it available with three versions of the same 1.4-litre petrol engine. There would be a standard 90bhp unit, a mildly turbocharged one with 120bhp and a more heavily modified - and also turbocharged...

The 1.9-litre MultiJet turbo diesel engine which has done such excellent work in a great many Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Vauxhall, Saab and Cadillac products is gradually being replaced by a more modern unit with the same name but a lower capacity.
