life of its aging Ranger small pickup truck because high gasoline
prices have boosted its sales, a person who has been briefed on
Ford's plans said Wednesday. No decisions have been made on how long the compact truck might live on, said the person, who requested anonymity because the company has not made any plans public. The company had planned to cease production of the old pickup next year and shut down its St. Paul, Minn., factory that employs about 1,060 people. Continued production could give Ford a placeholder until it figures out how to bring to the U.S. a small pickup it makes elsewhere in the world.
