16/07/2008 19:28. SOUTHAMPTON'S Ford plant could lose the contract to build the next generation of Transit vans because its costs are too high, the Daily Echo can reveal today.

Factory bosses at the plant, which is pictured above, have warned that the new Transit "could be built elsewhere", according to company minutes leaked to the newspaper.

Management has even considered slashing wages for new staff in a bid to cut costs.
