06/08/2008 06:39. REDLANDS - Five students and three adults visited Redlands from Hino, Japan - one of Redlands' sister cities - with the Redlands Sister Cities Association from July 22 to Aug. 3.

"(Sister Cities) is something that came out of President Eisenhower's People-to-People Program," said Barbara Wormser, past president of the Redlands Sister Cities Association. "Sister Cities rose out of that."

Wormser said Sister Cities International is based in Washington, D.C., but there are sister cities all over the world.

"Hino has been our sister city for almost over 50 years now."

The program had its inspiration from President Dwight Eisenhower.
