Sony Ericsson will launch the Xperia X1 handset on September 30 in the UK, Germany and Sweden.

The handset is the first under Sony Ericsson’s new sub-brand Xperia, which aims to produced converged ‘one devices’ that do everything.

Luca Maestri has been named the new chief financial officer at Nokia Siemens . It’s hoped the move will show the company’s integration is on track.

Maestri was previously the CFO at General Motors’ European division.

The telecom-equipment market has struggled in the past few quarters due to slumping spending and the weak economy.

As Yahoo's stock and reputation continues to crumble , the former search engine leader is hoping to change Iphone users' social networking habits with its OneConnect app.

It has been announced that the UK is to get its hands on the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 mobile phone before the US does.

The phone will ship from September 30th at the earliest in the UK, Germany and Sweden and there should be no shortage of consumers interested in adding it to their Christmas wish list.

Sony's new device will have a number of home screens, called 'panels', with separate icons that allow its users to opt from any of these required panels to work with.

The handset will also sport a functional QWERTY keyboard and enjoy high data speed courtesy of its HSDPA connectivity.

A blogger called Nick, writing on Mobile Phone Handsets website, got the chance to look at the X1 last weekend and was impressed, calling it "awesome".

Handset maker Sony Ericsson is going head to head with rival Nokia, with the launch of a music download service. It will take on Nokia's recently launched Comes with Music offering and will launch in October.

The PlayNowPlus service is currently being trialled in Sweden and Sony Ericsson plans to launch it through high-end devices such as its W980.

Nokia Siemens Networks tapped Luca Maestri as its new chief financial officer, a move that the telecommunications-infrastructure company said shows its integration is on track.

Mr. Maestri comes to Nokia Siemens -- the joint venture between Finland's Nokia Corp. and Germany's Siemens AG -- from General Motors Corp., where he most recently was finance chief at the car maker's European division. The 44-year-old will join the company Oct. 1 and will formally assume his role on Nov. 1.

Eric Simonsen, the departing finance chief, will retire in December, following a two-month transition and handover period, the company said.
