North Adams Police Lt. David Sacco said Kelly was taken by ambulance to North Adams Regional Hospital where he was treated and released. He was cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The accident is still under investigation.

Sacco expressed surprise that no other cars were involved and no one else was hurt in one of the busiest intersections of the city.

"That is pretty amazing," he said.
