TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Japan's largest automaker Toyota Motor Corp. will begin manufacturing the hybrid version of the Camry sedan in China in 2010, aiming to jump-start sales of environmentally friendly cars there, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Tuesday without citing sources.

The Japanese automaker plans to produce 10,000 of the cars a year at Guangzhou Toyota Motor (nyse: TM - news - people ) Co., its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., in the southern province of Guangdong.

Toyota has been making and selling the Prius hybrid in China since 2005, but 2007 sales stalled to around 1,000 or one-third of its target, the report said.
