04/09/2008 06:06. Subaru of America Inc. said Wednesday its sales last month rose by 14 percent, helped by demand for its compact line and its smaller SUV.

The Cherry Hill, N.J.-based car maker sold 18,932 vehicles in August, up from 16,573 last year.

Sales were particularly strong for the Forester, a five-passenger SUV, which recorded a 73 percent gain in sales, and the five-door Impreza, a compact whose sales were up 44 percent.
