Toyota Scion dealership preparing for opening in Oakland 10/10/2008 23:30. OAKLAND — Despite the downturn in the economy, the second
largest Toyota Scion dealership in Northern California will open in
Oakland in time for the holidays. Starting the first week of December, the new 200,000-square-foot facility officially will open for business along Oakport Street, a frontage road also known as "Auto Mile." City officials think the $32 million project will help generate badly needed sales tax revenue as well as more local jobs. "I hope this will change the way people perceive Oakland and that they will see that it is a safe place to do business and create job opportunities," said Councilman Larry Reid (Elmhurst-East Oakland).
