Tight credit, economic worries and high gasoline prices combined to crush the sales of Toyota Motor Corp. and other automobile companies last month.

Beleaguered Ford reported a 34 percent decline, while Chrysler said its sales fell 33 percent and Toyota posted a 32 percent drop.

At the same time, the sales of the vehicles Toyota makes at its Princeton plant didn’t decline nearly so much. Toyota sold 2,030 Sequoia sport-utility vehicles this September, up from the 1,660 sold in the same month a year ago. And it sold 9,647 Sienna minivans, down from the 9,865 sold in September 2007.
