27/06/2008 20:45. With the "cheapest" 2.0TDi VW Tiguan model costing £20,500, it seems Jeep has decided on an aggressive pricing strategy to win hearts, minds and hard-earned cash because the equivalent Patriot, the Sport, not only costs what seems a bargain £17,255 but - get this - it is also powered by exactly the same 138bhp diesel engine and six-speed gearbox as the Tiguan.

Of course the firm also offers one of its more traditional gas-guzzling 2.4 litre petrol engines but it's the diesel that is by far the most appealing - and you have to wonder if VW bosses knew about Jeep's cut-price intentions when they agreed to the deal because the engine and gearbox package is one of the best around.

The pairing certainly suits the Patriot, which also boasts a refined, bump-absorbing chassis set-up.... // Islington Gazette
