contributing more than 10 percent. Sales of the luxury model have been stable – despite the car’s March 2007 launch coinciding with the US subprime crisis and the country’s potential economic recession. And there was a 44% jump in US sales last month. Performance in the US market is an important indicator for the East London plant, which manufactures the C- Class exclusively for North America and South Africa. “Demand in the US is very high … and exports to the US are moving according to planned production … with various markets requesting additional production.
