Mitsubishi Heavy, E.ON Energie to Test CO2 Recovery Technology 04/07/2008 21:28. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) and E.ON Energie AG, a German
power company, will jointly conduct a field test to recover carbon
dioxide (CO 2 ) emitted from a coal-fired power generation station. In the test, CO 2 in flue gas will be desorbed and recovered by using steam and a special absorbing solvent called "KS-1." It is a technique developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and features low energy consumption at the time of desorption and recovery. In early 2010, the two companies will start the operation of a pilot plant. The plant is capable of recovering 100t of CO 2 per day (flue gas processing rate; 20,000m 3 /h). In order to find a way to reduce energy consumption during operation, various kinds of verification tests will be conducted over a period of two years.
