Nissan cutting truck production, will build more Altimas 10/06/2008 09:37. Sales of the Nissan Titan pickup truck fell by 55.8 percent last month, to 2163 units, while
the full-size Armada SUV saw a 52.1 percent decline with a scant 1212 examples managing
to leave dealer lots. Meanwhile, at the same time the
automaker's Altima sedan leapt by 43.6 percent in May, as 34,428 vehicles moved out
the door. Because of this, the company is planning to shift the
workforce at its Canton, Mississippi, manufacturing plant away from
production of the gas-guzzlers to focus on turning out more
examples of its midsize sedan. Nissan's Canton plant already has both car and truck production lines, but to make the change the automaker will add an extra shift to the Altima's line (for a grand total of three) while production of the Titan and Armada is cut to just one per day.
