ESCAPE ROADS: 1954 Cadillac Eldorado 19/09/2008 19:46. Cadillac introduced the Eldorado for the 1953 model year as a
specially trimmed top-of-the-line convertible with subtle sporty
qualities. It was part of the marque's 50th-anniversary
celebration. The following year, it was substantially redesigned,
with a dramatic wraparound windshield and new bodywork. That made
the '54 model very special, indeed. This Eldorado is large--almost 19 feet long, with a 129-inch wheelbase. It weighs 4,598 pounds. The big twin front bumpers set the tone for the entire car. Pronounced chrome details are everywhere. The oversize smooth chrome plate surrounding the exterior door handles helps prepare the eye for the thick ribbed valance that stretches along the base of the rear half of the car.
