Fiat has announced the extension of its Bravo mid-size hatchback range with the launch of a more powerful - and more economical - engine.

The entire five-door Bravo range will now feature the 165 bhp 2.0 MultiJet unit, the company explains.

Featuring a diesel particulate filter, the powerhouse is capable of delivering greater performance, with torque increased to 360 Newton metres, reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption of 53 mpg over the combined cycle.

Fiat is starting to replace the 1.9-litre MultiJet turbo diesel engine offered in the Fiat Bravo range with a two-litre version which is better in all respects.

The 2.0 is more powerful, more economical and (in CO2 terms) cleaner than the 1.9, at 165bhp, 53mpg combined and 139g/km respectively. The 5-door Bravo range will now benefit from a new 165 bhp 2.0 MultiJet unit which features a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and is type-approved to Euro 5 standards, ahead of the 2009 deadline.

The new version, available in Sport and Dynamic specification, is not just greener it further underscores the liveliness, flexibility and driving pleasure that have always been features of the Bravo.
