| No better way to enjoy twisty back roads 09/12/2008 14:02. The first time I drove an S2000 I was sure the engine would grenade
as the revs spooled toward numbers that promised detonation in
competitors' engines. There was no catastrophe, though -- just a
rush to speed that really surprised me. Eight years later and the S2000 retains that ability to spin to
r.p.m. levels that make one nervous yet still bring a smile to the
driver's face. The engine's displacement has been increased to 2.2 litres and the
redline has dropped to 8,000 from 9,000 r.p.m. The power output has
been revised slightly to 237 horses, although there's now a bit
more torque with 162 foot-pounds on tap (compared with the
original's 157). The added grunt helps make the car more driveable,
minimizing the need to frequently stir the slick six-speed gearbox,
