Completely redesigned for 2009, the FX35 combines an offbeat exterior with a posh interior and the auto world’s latest electronic gadgets.

Motor Mouth recently tested the rear-wheel-drive FX35, which carries a $42,150 base price. (An all-wheel-drive version starts at $43,600).

On the outside, the FX35 has a love-it-or-hate-it design.

A long hood with big flaring fenders sweeps back to standard five-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels and hefty doors with large folding mirrors.

All the way back, a liftgate with a small rear windshield sits above standard chrome dual exhaust pipes.

Inside, my test FX35 featured lots of posh appointments.
