02/08/2008 04:15. The MG Metro 6R4 was born out of the Group B rallying phenomenon of the Eighties where car makers would stick huge amounts of power into small cars for spectacular results.

Powering the MG Metro 6R4 was a 3-litre V6 engine mounted behind the front seats developing 300bhp in a car which weighed around 1,000kg.

With this mammoth power channelled to all four wheels, it’s thought the MG Metro 6R4 will accelerate from 0-60mph in around three seconds making it one of the world’s fastest road-legal cars.

The name 6R4 stood for six cylinder, rally car, four-wheel drive and was made up of 347 unique panels which were transported to Austin Rover’s Longbridge plant – where production of the MG TF restarted today after a three year hiatus .
