09/09/2008 16:07. Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Volkswagen AG , Europe's biggest carmaker, said new versions of its Golf and Polo models will help boost sales next year even as global auto markets deteriorate.

``We've become more cautious, but we don't expect a decline,'' Chief Executive Officer Martin Winterkorn said at a presentation of the sixth-generation Golf in Reykjavik, Iceland. Volkswagen's 2009 performance ``depends on the economy.''

VW next year aims to sell 600,000 Golfs after the new version hits European showrooms in October. The Wolfsburg, Germany-based carmaker plans to offer an updated Polo compact in 2009.
