Starting today the European project BioDME aims to involve fuel producers, distributors as well as the automotive industry to co-operate on developing and potentially introducing BioDME (DME stands for Dimethylether) as an alternative fuel source for the automotive industry.

The main benefit of running vehicles on biosourced DME is the very low emissions expelled from the exhaust, mainly due to soot-free engine combustion. Couple this with its renewable source and BioDME could provide a genuine alternative to the fossil fuels used today.

Volvo is all set for the Paris Motor Show next month and its focus will clearly be on being environmentally friendly.

The company is debuting its new low emissions DRIVe model range, which it hopes will make an impact in the marketplace.

Some of the biggest names in the company, such as new president and chief executive, Stephen Odell, will also be outlining the company's vision for the future at its press conference on Thursday, October 2nd.

One can hop onto a Vajra coach (barring Vayu Vajras, which ply to and from the international airport) and travel to any destination just by paying Re. 1. The usual fares on these buses range from Rs. 10 to Rs. 55. The move has been described as yet another effort to decongest Bangalore roads.

The Volvo Group is the co-ordinator for the European project BioDME, which is starting its work today. Though lacking in any C02-spewing supercars, Volvo still has to meet mandatory European emissions standards and this new series features a number of clever and straight-forward ways to reduce 'em without utilizing exotic drivetrains. Drag is significantly reduced with the aerodynamic Libra rims, new underbody panels, the addition of ducktail spoilers and a covered radiator grille. Volvo has launched three special edition cars to celebrate the Volvo Ocean Race which starts in Alicante, Spain next month.

The Volvo V70, XC70 and XC90 are available in Ocean Blue.

PUMA Ocean Racing arrived in Alicante, Spain mid afternoon Friday, successfully delivering their boat il mostro from their training base in the USA. The Puma boat and sailors will remain in Spain until the Volvo start in October.

The team left Newport on 26 August in preparation of the start of the Volvo Ocean Race on October 4. The transatlantic crossing was a chance for the team to see how the boat handled in the open ocean

'We called this our team’s 'Leg 1.' It was great practice for our boat and team,' said Skipper Ken Read. 'We were able to work out some kinks and really come together as a team.
