become more fuel-efficient, even as they maintain their mass. Auto
manufacturers will accomplish that by applying more advanced,
fuel-saving technology to motor vehicles. One of the primary technologies I hear mentioned is turbocharging. A turbocharger is an engine add-on that coaxes greater power out of smaller engines. A car equipped with a turbocharged engine can get some of the fuel economy of a small motor, along with some of the power available from a large motor. At least that's the theory. In practice so far, turbos are used primarily to wring more power out of already powerful engines. In the ultra-expensive, ultra-fast Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, twin turbochargers boost a 6.0-liter, V12 engine to 604 horsepower.... // Eagle Tribune |
