Several other automakers including Ford, BMW and Audi said the strike was disrupting their production.

The five-day old strike in Spain is being waged by self-employed drivers who make up a small sector of the country's trucking industry.

The drivers, who are being squeezed by soaring diesel prices, want the government to establish minimum, guaranteed rates for their services.

GM's Adam Opel AG spokesman Andreas Kroemer said that no cars would be produced Friday night at the Eisenach plant in eastern Germany because of a shortage of components. He said employees would instead carry out maintenance work.

Kroemer put the expected production shortfall at about 200 vehicles.
