03/07/2008 23:13. The deck of cards has been well and truly been stacked against the Peugeot 407 .

As the large French family car gracefully nears middle age it's had to fend off a barrage of talented new competition from Ford, Mazda, Honda and, soon, Vauxhall - all out to chip away at the 20,000 407s sold a year.

To level the playing field and fight back against the Vectra-replacing Insignia, the French firm has called in the surgeons for a quick nip and a tuck.
