I Have been perusing The Daring Book for Girls. Inside this tome are handy tips for an adventurous life, including instructions on 20 ways to play tag and advice on patience (not the game, the skill).

Apparently it’s as important as a pen knife and a torch under certain circumstances.

I don’t know what happened to childhood. I mean, if you are “a girl of independent spirit with a nose for trouble”, are you really going to trawl through a handbook to get your guidance? Hell no, you’re going to be out there in the garden, or under your bed or beneath the table, playing to your heart’s content.

For crying out loud, how prescriptive can life get? It’s not enough that people write dodgy books about... // The Times
