Prospective students take NTI for a test drive 24/06/2008 00:11. The air around NASCAR Technical Institute was filled with roaring
engines and excited chatter. No, it wasn’t a demonstration of the Car of Tomorrow. An open house Saturday gave prospective students a glimpse of what it would be like to work for a NASCAR team some day. T.J. Dykstra, 20, recently moved to Statesville from California to take the first step in fulfilling his dream of being a NASCAR pit crew chief. He is supposed to start school Aug. 25. “I just really want to do what I want to do,” he said. The school in Talbert Point Business park is a part of the Universal Technical Institute System and graduates around 700 students every year. Around 600 graduates have gone onto racing industry.
