Meanwhile, sales of Tundra pickup trucks have declined while those of the Highlander sport utility vehicle remain steady. Given those realities, the changes Toyota is making to its manufacturing operations in North America make good sense to him.

Toyota announced Thursday it would cease making the Tundra at its Princeton factory and concentrate production of the large truck in San Antonio. Replacing the Tundra in Princeton will be the Highlander. Those medium-sized SUVs will begin rolling off Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana's assembly lines in spring 2009.
