July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp. 's Canadian unit must pay back transfer fees charged to second and subsequent car owners for extended warranties after a Quebec appeals court found them illegal, a consumer group said.

The 60-day period to appeal the court's April 24 ruling has expired, making the decision final. Toyota chose not to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada because it would be too costly, Pierre Millette, Toyota Canada's national manager for external affairs said. Toyota estimates about 6,000 consumers are owed a total of C$300,000 ($294,000), according to the court's ruling.
