18/07/2008 05:06. Volkswagen AG, Europe's biggest carmaker, could bring a subcompact car similar to its Polo to North America as record gasoline prices spur sales of fuel-efficient vehicles.

Volkswagen said the high price of oil and raw materials is curbing the pace of growth in emerging markets such as India, but expects they will still make up the bulk of sales in 10 years, a senior official said.
