Kimi Raikkonen will likely start the British Grand Prix with a
brand new engine.
However, the unscheduled powerplant change will not cost the
championship contender as each driver this season is allowed one
"free" engine change without being penalized.
Following the French Grand Prix in which Raikkonen's car developed
an exhaust problem, Ferrari have been contemplating the risks of
repairing and continuing with the same engine for the next race or
changing it out altogether.
"As far as Kimi's engine is concerned and keeping the rules in
mind, to avoid a penalty, I think that we will use a new unit to
try and reduce the risk," said Ferrari team boss Stefano
Domenicali.
